WGTD Radio Theater continues its season with “The Cedar Chest Letters”

March 21, 2022 1:42 p.m.

The award-winning WGTD Radio Theater returns April 9 with a play based on the heartwarming letters of Racine resident and WGTD personality Barb Tylla.

Tylla was looking in her mother’s old cedar chest and came across a bundle of old letters. In these letters, Tylla found her family’s story of strong women, loving men, and life in the 1930s and early 1940s. She took the letters and wrote a play where, despite the challenges of the Great Depression and the early days of World War II, love conquered all.

The WGTD Radio Theater aired this radio adaptation of Tylla’s play on the airwaves in 2013 and again in 2014. It will be performed live on April 9, 2022 at 11:15 a.m. on the Root Campus of Gateway Technical College in the area Student Commons. .

Said Tylla, “I’ve been writing all my life — almost — since I figured out how to put words on a page and keep them in the margins,” she said. “Since 1977, my short stories and essays have appeared in over 22 publications in the United States and Canada. I won two Catholic Press Awards for short fiction, but turned my attention to acting in 2005.”

“The Cedar Chest Letters” airs April 9 at 11:15 a.m. on WGTD FM and through smart speakers. Just ask Alexa or Google Home to “Play WGTD HD-1 on Tune IN”. The program will also be archived.
